Advocacy Seminar for 2010
We are pleased to announce that our annual 18 hour, three day Advocacy Seminar for 2009 had record attendance by parents, educators, attorneys and psychologists.
We are again offering this introductory course in special education advocacy for parents, psychologists, attorneys and educators who serve as advocates for special needs children. The program is presented over three days with 6 hours of CE or MCLE credit offered to psychologists and attorneys for each full day of attendance. This training takes place over the course of 3 Saturdays including April 24th, May 8th, and May 22nd, with a 4th Saturday, June 12th, dedicated to Special Needs Trusts.
DAY 1 was a great success-enrollment is still available for Days 2 and 3!
• DAY 1: Perform or review psych-educational evaluations and apply the federal criteria for special education, eligibility. Determine the least restrictive environment (LRE) and the basic services that are needed by an eligible child and allowed by law.
• DAY 2: Comply with the federal mandates for and understand the math of educational and psychological assessments. Select appropriate common tools, and avoid problems with cultural issues, and limitations. Deal with forensic testimony in due process litigation.
• DAY 3: Use effective tools when confronted with discipline issues, suspension or expulsion. Prepare an effective Individual Education Plan. Advocate at the IEP Team meeting, and preparing for testimony and litigation that may follow.
On Saturday, June 12th, we will explore the other side of special needs law: planning and conservatorships. The speaker, Diedre Braverman Esq., is a nationally known expert on special needs planning and a Board-Certified Specialist.
Enrollment is available for individual day courses or the entire series.

In October, 2009, PAUSE4kids was a sponsor of the Best Day Ever event in Ventura, put on by the Best Day Foundation; their first in Southern California. Here is a link to a great video of the event.
